EMT from Braintree remembers marathon bombing

Braintree — Matthew O’Connor, 21, a lifelong Braintree resident, was put to the test four months after he became an emergency medical technician (EMT) for the Arlington-based Armstrong Ambulance Service.

On Patriots Day, April 15, O’Connor, a 2010 graduate of Braintree High School, and fellow EMT Sean Gelinas of Cambridge were sitting in their truck at Boston College waiting for calls when they were instructed to go to Boston University.

Near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, O’Connor and Gelinas learned about the terrorist bombing when someone pulled up to them and said, “Have you guys heard anything about the explosion?” More…
